The
Healy family is anything but average.
In fact, pick a category and this
clan will likely defy the description
“normal.”
There’s the
Dad, Kit: 63 years old, 5’8”
a plumber and native of Ireland.
His wife, Siobhan:
37 years old, 6’1” and
a native of Germany. But, height
and age disparity is only the start.
The couple met
when they were playing in a band
together. Yes, they make beautiful
music. But, they wanted more…
they wanted a family together.
Siobhan had a pretty
good start on an unusual family-
6 kids from an earlier marriage,
all born before she was 30 with
an African American father. This
pale, red-haired mom already drew
attention with her kids.
But, when Kit
and Siobhan began adding to the
brood with their own children, people
really began to notice. First they
had one set of identical twins…
then a singleton…
then a set of fraternal twins…
and now, without any fertility drugs
for any of the pregnancies- they
have added number 12 and 13 to the
family- two more identical twins.
But this latest
birth has a very serious twist-
they were each born three months
premature, weighing less than 2
½ lbs., from a syndrome known
as Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome
or TTTS.
With a family ranging
from 16 to just weeks old, this
very unusual clan is balancing A
LOT. Taking care of each kid’s
milestones, from preparing a teenager
to drive, to the 5 year old twins
starting kindergarten, to preparing
the preemies homecoming, life at
the Healy home is quite a balancing
act. How they get it all done will
amaze you.
